Meeting the Student
I collect students from Dublin airport when they arrive, and take them to our home by car. I like to collect them on my own so that during the car journey we can chat, and as well as getting to know each other I can gauge their level of English, although I have to take into consideration, tiredness after their journey, excitement and nervousness at being in a strange place and getting used to the accents etc.
On arrival at our home I show them around and let them settle into their bedroom etc., prepare some food and generally make them feel comfortable in their new surroundings.
The Holiday
Lessons are usually given in the morning after breakfast. After the lessons, students are free to go outside, read, or generally relax, while I prepare lunch. After lunch usually most days I will suggest some activity which I can organise for them, such as tennis, swimming, fishing, horse riding, cycling or walking. Other days I may take them to visit some place of interest or activity such as a castle, city, amusement park, beach or historical site etc.
In the evenings I go to my sister's farm to help with feeding the animals and often students come as well if they are interested. Then we have dinner together and later, they can relax and watch a DVD (in English), play playstation, read a book, go for a cycle etc. Some evenings we may arrange a barbeque with other family members and we try to take them to the cinema on at least one occasion during their stay.
Departure
For departure I take them back to the airport/port etc., assist them with check in and see them through to the departure gates.
MATURE STUDENTS We also welcome adults who would like to improve their English to our home.
We are happy to accommodate students from any country and of all ages at any time of the year. We understand that adults may wish to cook themselves and perhaps travel a little during their stay, so we are happy to discuss the needs of individuals and alternative prices depending on same.
